It sounds like the computer is still infected. Try scanning it with TDSSKiller, Hitman Pro & Kaspersky Virus Removal Tool. You could also try Autoruns to see what is loading the dialog box.
Thanks tawd1992. I have tried TDSSKiller, Hitman Pro & Kaspersky Virus Removal Tool. Still the weird dialog box pops up after post. (Sometimes I get more info like weird code and C:\windows\system32\Xpob2res.dll on the top bar of dialog box every 2 to 3 boot) click ok in dialog box and PC runs normal. I have run Autoruns but nothing strange stading out!
Start uninstalling unnecessary programs to see which one is causing the problem. You said avg is not loading correctly, uninstall it. Let me know if you resolve this.
Thanks rgarces1974. Uninstalled AVG still same dialog box problem.
+1 to the other posts, remove unneeded software, I've seen a pop up similar with either a java or adobe pop up in the past, but not sure. I also think it could be infected still, try avira antivirus as a free one, I find it better than avg and mse for detections lately. Also try combofix, aswmbr, and the kaspersky boot disk. If you throw all the virus removing stuff at it and still no go, try sfc or chkdsk. Hopefully some of this works so you don't have to do a reinstall.
Thanks compudoc. removed java and adobe also ran avira, combofix, aswmbr and Ccleaner. sfc done and chkdsk no joy!
open up regedit and backup
1.) delete contents of
*also delete contents of RunOnce and any other run folders within those directories
2.) open up task scheduler and at the top click advanced and choose to show hidden.
delete all tasks if using XP, if newer OS then delete all tasks but exclude Microsoft folder.
3.) Disable system restore and disable system page file then run disk cleanup and delete all restore points and any other junk you can find.
4.) open CMD and type in CHKDSK /F C: and choose yes to schedule upon restart.
5.) restart computer and wait... if prompt occurs again the create a new profile and see if it loads there
*dont forget to re enable your system restore and pagefile when your done.
Thanks A1C-James. Look at the registry and followed your good instruction but still dialog box. What I did find when I was looking in the registry, was a piece of software called Ammy. I had a problem in the past with a client that was phoned called by a bogus Microsoft support person and they had remoted in to the clients PC with Ammy remote and scared client to hand over credit card details. The PC was infected with random faults. I had to reinstall. (The client had OS CD and all software CDs, which was good). I spent alot of time like now trying to find out what bogus remote support person had done with the Ammy remote, it was a pain and still no real answer!
Other things done, user profiles deleted and no change!!!!!!!
My next attack on this PC, install Avast and run at boot, it has this function if this does not work I will try to renew the Xpob2res.dll that pops up sometimes in the dialog box.
I do like troubleshooting but this is hardwork and my eyes and head hurt!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (Bad Day at work
Thanks again to all, any more suggestions?
