Just built a Ubuntu 10.10 pxe server. Now I'm stuck trying to figure out if I can use ISO's, or do I copy my discs for windows installs to folders. Along with that how to get a menu with the different OS's listed. Is anybody using a pxe server for this? If so what is your menu structure.

Thanks, JD

From this tread you can do iso files

You might want to give FOG a look. I have been using it at the school I work at to manage imaging machines. I'm not sure it is what you are looking for as I don't think it can handle ISO's.

@D2D, i saw that post. This made me think i would have to copy the files into folders. I'm not against that, but I thought iso's may be easier to work with. It looks like folders/files will have to work.

@kwisher. I did see some info on fog, but at first glance i thought it was windows server based. Maybe i need to research that more.

I am basically wanting to stop fumbling for cd's all the time. My goal is to pxe boot installs, and troubleshooting disks. In my mind i thought iso's would work, but the more i research it, the more i think it won't.

My first FOG server was running on Ubuntu 10.04 32-bit. We have since added a Citrix XEN Virtual server and I am in the process of migrating it to a Debian Lenny 64-bit VM.

I looked at fog, it is for imaging. I am looking for something else. Thanks for the info.

Thanks for the tip on Fog, kwisher. After doing more research, I think this is going to help. I installed it last night. Very easy setup. Then I was able to pxe boot a computer on the network. Fog comes setup up for imaging, but it looks like you can add menus for other stuff, ie; anything you would want to do in a pxe setup. Hopefully I can get it to do windows installs and boot disks, and all this work will have paid off. I'd like to here if anybody is sucessfully doing this.

Thanks, JD

Thanks to kwishers tip on the Fog project, i came across this in my research. http://hotfortech.wikispaces.com/how+to+setup+Aviad%27s+PXE+server+%26+extensions. This is exactly what i was looking for. How to create different menus and sub menus. How to add additional boot items. Instead of iso's for installs, it looks easier to deploy a sysprepped image. I will be able to incorporate acronis true image, Bartpe, ubcd etc all into a pxe boot menu. Bye bye cd's & dvd's. Plug in, pxe boot, and go. Thanks to all who helped, now i just have to find time to do the coding.
