Hi All!

I have here an Aspire 4736z laptop that powers off automatically 3-5 seconds after turning it on. The power LED lights on but it turns off after 3-5 seconds.

I have swapped RAM still the same.
I have take out all parts that can be removed,e.g. hard drive, wireless card, and battery, attached directly to its power adapter, but still the same.
I have also tried to power on with its battery attached, the same problem. :?

The problem maybe of a short circuit or something that causes this laptop to auto off..Maybe (unlikely)overheating? :?:

A bad motherboard?

I am planning to open it up to see anything that might cause this problem. I'll post back to you guys for any update. :)

Anyway, anyone of you guys have encountered the same kind of issue? Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance! :P

Thank you for the input, but I don't know what you mean..

Just an update, I have opened up this laptop, inspect the motherboard, everything looks fine..I removed the CPU HSF, clean it and apply thermal compound to isolate overheating, same problem. :?
I have also pull out and check if the motherboard will power-up on its basic setup( Motherboard, CPU, RAM) video cable and LCD was detached, still the same.. :?

Maybe its time for a new motherboard...

Any more suggestions?

Thank you...

Hi Oldspice

Have you looked for blown caps on the mobo and any liquid damage.

Also you could try to see if the computer would stay on if you discconect the laptop power switch, if the switch is damaged it could cause the laptop to turn on then switch off as if you were holding it down.

Just a thought

Did you check the power supply? I would agree, it sounds like caps starting to discharge then fail. I would try a universal power supply and see if it stays on. Try that.
