Hey Doc,

Did you get a final result on the issue? I have a 1764 on my bench now and all hardware/software tests come back fine. So It is somewhere from video chip to the lcd. The video out works without issue just LCD side is at issue. Seems like this is a common issue out there too, but with no final solution. So I would be interested in if you solved this perplexing issue.

Thanks
Dave

Nothing has fixed this. I did a reflow with flux and there was no change. I told the shop that it looked like a mobo issue to me as I did swap out the LED panel, too. So now I'm waiting to hear what the customer has to say. It's off the bench now.

Ok Thanks for the info. I don't believe it is a motherboard issue since it does not affect the external video out. At least on the one on my bench. It is weird since hitting f1 will bring it back on the lcd. Sounds almost like a firmware issue since it is still an issue in dos and linux. Hmm need to look at firmware issue.

Thanks Doc

Dave

@drake3d - IMO it could indeed be the mobo as there would be different paths out from the GPU that would send the vid signal either to the screen or to the external vid connector.

@reballer - what are your thoughts on this?

Possible on MB Doc there is a short pathway to LCD cable that bypasses the Video Out. Got to look and see if any cracks there.
I did strip off the bezel around LCD and lifted the cover around keyboard to pull video cable free. No problems for almost 24 hours with cable free. I did run it with just the bezel removed and it did white screen but when I reset it and moved the cable it seems fine so far. Ran video on loop over night with no white screening. Might be the cable, its cheap enough to replace. Yes I do know that on yours the other shop ordered the cable but do you know if they actually replaced it. The clips on the cover around the keyboard can be a pain. and replacing the LCD is easy if you you don't replace that cable. Some people are lazy that way. Are you positive they did the cable too? Just interested.
