I'm building a new computer for a costumer of mine. Here are the Specs:

Intel Core i5-2500K
MSI H61M-P23 B3 Intel H61 Motherboard
Patriot 4GB DDR3-1333MHz
Seagate Barracuda 500GB SATA6G 3.5

He told me he wanted Windows XP Pro 64 on it. I didn't realize this would be a headache. Windows was having trouble formatting the hard drive. I realized this was probably due to the fact the SATA drivers needed aren't on the windows disc. I tried making a custom disc though nLite with the drivers on the Mobo Disc. But for some reason nLite didn't give me the option to make it a bootable iso file at the end. It did make the custom windows disc in a folder. I tried using IMGburn to make the files bootable. I downloaded my boot image form http://www.allbootdisks.com/download/xppro.html - I used Windows XP Professional, Diskette Images, Disk Img 1. I pointed Imgburn to the file I made from nLite. But when I booted the disc on into the new computer it gave me this blue setup screen:

Windows setup

Please insert the Windows Pro Disk
Labeled Windows xp Professional setup disk #2
into Drive A:
* Press enter when ready

I've never installed xp on new Hardware like this so any tips at all would be very welcome and feel free to tell me if I'm going about this completely wrong. Thanks.

I've struggled through with this myself a few times. I've used nlite a few times to create a custom disk, but most of the time I have to resort to using a legacy USB floppy drive together with a good olde fashioned floppy disk containing the appropriate driver.

Regards

Is there a guide you could link that explains the floppy drive method in greater depth?

You just plug in a floppy drive (through USB port if you have to), so Windows XP can load the required drivers from a floppy disk during install.

The alternative is to roll your own Windows XP install disk with the required drivers 'streamlined' in.

I think there is an option when you install windows xp if you have any 3rd party drivers, to press a button and it will look for them on a floppy drive, not a cd/dvd drive or a usb thumb drive/hard drive. Its been a while since I have had to do that and I hope my memory is right.

Its F6. But see if you can change the Bios from SATA to IDE. Even if they are Sata drives that usually works.

Did you take a look at Microsoft's pages referencing XP x64? Here are a few:
http://support.microsoft.com/ph/8599
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/896334
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb490863.aspx
...and the Wikipedia entry: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_XP_Professional_x64_Edition

First of all, I would be VERY hesitant to install XP x64 on ANY computer with all the issues that OS has had. If the customer wants 64 bit, install Windows 7. If the customer wants XP, install 32 bit. You may want to ask your customer to reconsider.

XP x64 is on service pack 2 and will not receive any other service packs. There will be ZERO updates for XP (any version) issued after August 8, 2014 (http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows/help/end-support). That's not very far away.

Still, you'll need to grab the boot image from the original CD to get that new one to boot. You can do this with ImgBurn. See this forum post for more details: http://forum.imgburn.com/index.php?showtopic=11190

Good luck!

The Hard drive manufactures website may also have tools/software/explanation of how to install the drivers.

The bios are probably set for AHCI mode. Change it to IDE mode and you won't need drivers.

That's what I was trying to say.
