If you think about it they absolutely refuse to allow competition, every time a hardware company makes a compatible unit they shut them down, an ipod/itunes only work on their format, short of a blackmarket product. I guess you could suppose copy write infringement but... surely their patents have expired for the most part.

To gain better understanding of what is going on, you lot will need to get into a lot more detail, both on the area of law (understand the difference of copyright vs. patents), details of the evidence presented in the court cases, the anti-competitive business practices that Intel & Microsoft have been convicted for on multiple continents and of course.. politics.

There's some great books on the Eighties software battles between Microsoft and its, mostly goofy, competitors like Lotus/Wordperfect/IBM, which shows what it takes to grab and defend market share. It ain't pretty picture.

How a country or Government department deals with Microsoft's monopoly is just another pawn on the bargaining board of power and greed. But real twisted stuff is what the Gates foundation is up to. Check up on daddy Gates to get warmed up

I suppose if and when they get a larger market share this may rear it's ugly head. Considering THEY set the price in the anti competitive market, that alone should raise some flags. And yes they DO price gouge, that is a fact.

And of course I don't know law in great detail, but lately it seems as the law isn't enough it is how it is "Interpreted"! So time for a class action huh?? lol

as soon as hackintosh becomes so easy to install and be compatible with wifi and webcams ect..mac hardware wont be needed because the problem with computers is

windows laptops are cheap but windows gets so much attack
macs are expensive but their OS is more solid

hackintosh combines the two, cheap hardware with a solid OS

True reballer, but... it is illegal! That is my point they refuse to allow anyone but owners of their equipment to use their software.

Don't get me wrong I really like Mac / Apple. I love my Macbook. They have done a wonderful job Hyping their product line. People wait inline for hours for a new iPhone if not days. Android is by far in my opinion a better alternative, inexpensive and open.

I own an iPad but I think the Galaxy Tab is outselling the iPad now.

Also their walled garden of allowing apps and the use of flash should have drawn MORE outrage, I think.

Easy answer why not, they do not a single market

every market they are in the are a small percentage, except for mp3 players

The only thing I know they are doing that is like a monopoly is not letting other devices sync to iTunes as easy as a iPod

but the real bottom line, they are not even remotely close to big enough to be a monopoly

Good point Door, there's a certain art to defining the market. The devil is in the detail

Ok guys thanks alot. I am always seeing them say "No" you just can't! But if the identifier is market share then this makes sense.
