Hiya. I'm breaking new ground by looking at a problemstic mac

It's a PowerBook G4 laptop which has a defective screen (lines all over it) which was too expensive to replace. The customer just "lived with it" and used it anyway.

Now the screen no longer fires up, By attaching an external monitor, all we get is a completely White screen. It appears audibly to fire up with the apple boing, but nothing after that.

I tried inserting a copy of OS X, but aside from the drive churning abit, there us no difference.

I removed the drive and tried doing a repair with macdrive, but it hanged after 10 mins.

Any suggestions ?

Does anything pull up? I would try a live cd and see if it boots to something other than a white screen.

I haven't ran into white screen apples. But I believe that the white screen of death is a sign of a logic board issue, if software is ruled out.

May have to get a old version of ubuntu. Don't think the newest works, but again I haven't tested it.

Thanks for the replies guys. I've tried a couple of live cd's with no effect. It just shows a solid White screen ( on the attached monitor). Nothing on it's own screen.

Yeah sounds like the logic board is dead if nothing can start.
