Microsoft has made available the iso for 8.1 and it’s reported that it will work with the Windows 8 pass code.  I haven’t used it myself but they say it will work here…. http://winsupersite.com/windows-8/create-installation-media-windows-81

Mitch mentioned trying to do a fresh install of 8.1 on a Pink Sony Vaio. I use ProduKey (64-Bit most of the time) and sometimes rw everything. The ONLY time I’ve had this not work was on a 8.1 with Bing based Dell PC. Two of them, everything else it has worked on. I am sure you’ve mentioned these tools before, but they work well. The “With Bing” installations have always required me to get media from the PC manufacturer. If you know of where I can gain access, legally of course, a copy of that software, that would be great.
When I have to do a fresh install (Nuke and Pave), I use those tools to recover keys. When doing a fresh install, I use generic Win8/8.1 keys and then activate with the PC’s built in key after. I’ve had 99% success, the only exceptions being two Dell PCs. Hope this saves Mitch the headache in the future.
I don’t know if any of you use Evernote, but I have lots of detailed Evernote notes that might be useful, if this is something you’d like me to share via email, just reply back and let me know.

PS. These are generic install keys. If the PC has a Pro version of 8/8.1, make sure you use that key. It won’t authenticate otherwise. I commonly use this procedure to do a fresh install of Win 8/8.1. Also, it will work if the original installation is 8, and you proceed to install a N&P with 8.1. I’ve never used Single Language. Core is standard Windows, Pro is Pro, of course. =)
I used to use Ekeyfinder, but it doesn’t grab all installations of Office and doesn’t get the proper key on UEFI based BIOSes.
Activate retail Windows 8.1 with Windows 8 Product key.
Windows 8.1 Single Language Y9NXP-XT8MV-PT9TG-97CT3-9D6TC
Windows 8.1 Core 334NH-RXG76-64THK-C7CKG-D3VPT
Windows 8.1 Pro XHQ8N-C3MCJ-RQXB6-WCHYG-C9WKB
Hope this all helps. Love the show!
