First one I have done successfully and it felt good!
Instructions for fixing the “labtop”
Got on Craigs List for $40
Will probably sell at the shop for $299

Desktop with Hal.dll error right at bootup.
We have fixed this error in the past using
bootcfg/rebuild
If this doesn’t work it will tell you to run chkdsk first and retry.
This time we did both and it did not work.
Will try a Windows repair on it tomorrow.

Emachines desktop with a possible processor problem.
I discuss how I troubleshoot a processor issue using Knoppix

Email from Sherwin:
Using Linux to scan infected files & smoothwall to filter outbound traffic.
I am a long-time user of smoothwall and like that idea.
I have had an external drive infected due to backing up a clients Windows machine.
It infected every .exe file.
Using a Linux antivirus scanner would have saved me.

Sherwin also wants to know if keeping a client’s pc image
is a breach of confidentially?
I give him my opinion on this subject
plus I recommend that he informs the client.

Email from Josh:
Warning! on using jump drives to host all of your cleanup utilities.
Your jump drive can become infected if used on an infected machine!
This corruption can be passed onto all subsequent machines
you use your jump drive on.
You may not even be aware that it is infected.
(Josh gives a case-in-point instance)
Keep your utilities on cd or dvd
and only use your jump drives on known clean machines.
