Podnutz Daily #333 Show Notes
Jeremy Lane FastLanePC.com (fastlanetech in Podnutz Forums), from Colorado Springs, Colorado returns and introduces Alan Parekh, a software engineer, firmware developer and  owner of HackedGadgets.com, an electronics and hacker enthusiasts’ web site, and Reactive Lighting.  Jeremy was also the featured guest on Podnutz Daily #328.
Jeremy tells how he came across Alan and his web site – when a surge of phone scam attacks and web site spoofs harassing his wife and defrauding his customers prompted him to write the articles “Google Is Not The Internet” and “ALERT! Computer Scammers By Phone” on his own blog and to discover Alan’s related article and video. Alan’s video, “Hacked Gadgets gets another cold call from scammers called Global IT and Global PC Protection…”, records the scamming in action.
Discussion Topics:
  • Jeremy and Alan’s campaign against phone and web site scam perpetrators
  • Jeremy has been upgrading his web site, using WordPress, and Zopim, and introducing some resell (LiveDrive online backup) and affiliate links, with assistance from Leif Glass at AnyPcService.com,
  • The ToolBox service for his customers “Why Everyone Needs A Toolbox”
  • The philosophy behind his blog
  • His partnership formula for growth
  • Some issues he is trying to resolve:

  • Jason has problem obtaining an ip address after a virus cleanups and seeks ideas for a solution.  He is advised to post the question in Podnutz Forums. Jeremy suggests trying a guest account to test for the same results and transferring everything over if the problem is not present; reverting to system restore is another suggestion.
  • Mark has a Drobo RAID and asks if Drive Repair and Data Rescue from Prosoft will help him with problems he may have with the Drobo drives. Jeremy says Drobo has a great, though expensive, product with excellent product support and he recommends contacting them if you need help.
  • Sam has a disc image of his laptop stored on an external hard drive that he made with Clonzilla and wants to know if it is safe to defrag the image.  Everyone discourages against it.
  • James is doing a lot of cell phone repairs and has a new T-shirt he is starting to circulate to attract customers.
  • Lisa CallThatGirl announces the winner of her give-a-way contest on last week’s Podnutz Daily of a copy of the second edition of her Remote Support E-Book. The winner was Rob NEPCrepair.net in Omaha Nebraska.
