build.prop issue – email from James
”Hey guys, love the show. 90% of the new apps that I try come from your suggestions. The last 2 were ‘Mr Number’ and ‘KeepScreen’ from a few shows back. Anyway I have what I thought would be, or should be, a very simple question. I’ve tried XDA-forums, Reddit and various ‘Droid-centric’ forums and haven’t gotten an answer yet. I have a Droid Bionic that’s fully flashed to Cricket from Verizon. The phone works fine, no problems there but my question is: can I use custom ROM’ without losing carrier flash? The person who flashed the phone said that I *could* as long as the ‘build.prop’ wasn’t overwritten. As far as I can tell ALL custom ROMs overwrite the build.prop file. Other forums that I have read have posts from people that are supposedly running custom ROMs with flashed phones, but no one explains HOW to do it. I was especially disappointed that no one at XDA knew this, I thought that was the largest gathering of android developers and knowledgeable people. I’ve rooted and ROM’d the previous, Cricket branded phones before, but never a flashed phone. Hopefully one of you guys will have an answer but even if not, still love you guys and will continue to enjoy each and every episode. Take care guys!”
