Hi guys,
I’ve been listening to the show for a little while now, and I wanted to drop a little feedback. I’ve noticed a few times that you’ll wonder if you’re boring people with the details of a tedious repair job. I don’t think it’s boring at all. I like listening to the conversation, but I also value the breakdown of a problem and solution. So basically, keep it up.
I also wanted to relay something that I stumbled upon related to your conversation on the last show I listened to about data recovery. I can’t remember who it was, but one of you said you had seen a thumb drive full of shortcuts that the owner was able to open as if they were files previously, but now they are just shortcuts. I ran into a similar situation. A customer gave me a thumb drive with music on it, but they said it was all links, no music.
I wasn’t about to plug a random thumb drive into my computer, so I fired up my ubuntu usb drive. Anyway, the long and the short of it is that while viewing the drive in Ubuntu, the links and the music files were all visible. Back on my customer’s windows machine, only the .lnk files were available. (I checked the folder view options, but nothing worked there.) So, I don’t know what the deal is here, but back in ubuntu, I copied the music to another drive, reformatted the thumbdrive, copied it all back, and the customer had their music. I never would have thought of this, I just happened upon it while I was trying to keep my computer safe.
Thanks for the show,
—
Brad
