Why You Need A Firewall
- It protects against intruders. Allows good in, keeps bad out.
- It optimizes access. It identifies internal network components and allows more direct communication between these components, if necessary. (QoS, DHCP66, etc.)
- It protects confidential information. It allows access to information based on certain levels of trustworthiness.
- It prevents DoS attacks, as much as possible.
- It controls access to the LAN, endpoints and all equipment.
- It detects possible fraudulent use. Intrusion prevention and dection.
- It monitors the traffic from the WAN to the LAN and endpoints. Both incoming and outgoing.
- It controls access to privileged services, devices, etc. It is the cop on your network.
- Good firewall equipment will increase reliability and uptime.
- Compliance.
Because times have changed. Network security is far more complex, and the threats are more dangerous than just one year ago. Can your solution keep up?
**The most important reason you need a firewall is to help create a known network vs an unknown network.
